Business Planning – A Successful Plan

Carole Davidson - Friday 05.12.08, 07:23am

Reviewing your plan

A good business plan is not just written once and put on the shelf to gather dust.  It must be part of your constant review and re-written to accommodate your changing circumstances.  It is a living document.

Be Clear on What you Want

In order to realise your dreams, it is critical to take the time to be clear on what it is you do want.  What dreams do you have for the growth and future of your company?  Create that picture and hold it fiercely in your mind and in your heart.

It is crucial to check where you are now in relation to where you want your business to be.  Without specific feedback we do not know what we should be doing next to move us in the right direction.

Set Clear Goals

But remember, that the joy is in the journey, not simply in the attainment of our goals.  Savour the process of discovery and be in the present moment, enjoy the magic that can happen when your vision is realised.

Mapping out your Plan

What does success look like – how will you measure if you have achieved it? Sometimes it can be difficult to articulate your dreams.  Think carefully about what is the purpose of your business?

How will you communicate this to both your clients and your staff?

Record your specific aims and objectives on your business plan.  Consider all parts of your business, not just financial targets.

Review your sales and marketing objectives – are they still appropriate in the current economic climate – what can you do differently to attract new clients.  Can you introduce new products or perhaps limited special offers.

Consider all possibilities and be ready to seize those opportunities!
