Planning how to achieve your aim should involve all divisions or departments of the business. All goals either business or personal need a ‘route map’ of how you are going to achieve the growth you are looking for. Allow for flexibility, it may be that there are more routes to the goal than you can see immediately, and get ready to grab opportunities where they occur.

Set Milestones

The key to the planned action is that it does need to be clear enough that you and all your managers/team leaders can communicate it to every member of the workforce in an enthusiastic and motivating way and be unambiguous enough that it is understood by all.

Milestones must be set with details of planned distance traveled by each milestone
e.g. by four weeks into my plan I will have achieved ……..
I will know this has been achieved when……………………
This is a part of my vision because………………………….
I require help from…………………………………………….
They can help me by………………………………………….
Others that can help are………………………………………

and, where appropriate, these milestone should be agreed with key players. With the business vision every member of staff should be able to describe in detail what the company vision is and what that means in their job role. They should also be able to say how the success of their performance impacts directly on the achievement of the company’s Business Plan.

Review

Reviewing your plan is essential but how often you review progress depends on the detail of the plan. Certainly as the plan is forming it should be discussed at every meeting with your team or your coach and reviewed as to where you are now in comparison to where you want to be. Gaining feedback as whether or not you are on track will give you the drive and energy to make it happen.
